SK Arts’ Artists in Schools program provides Saskatchewan K–12 students with meaningful arts-based learning experiences that enhance student engagement, foster creativity, and build cross-disciplinary skills. Through grants, live programming and on-demand resources, professional artists collaborate with schools to deliver hands-on learning opportunities across a wide range of artistic disciplines, including dance, theatre, visual arts, media arts, and cultural arts practices. By immersing artists in the school environment, the program creates creative learning spaces that enrich education and inspire lifelong appreciation for the arts.

Artists in Schools is a SK Arts program supported by funding from Sask Lotteries through the partnership between SK Arts and SaskCulture Inc. and from the Government of Saskatchewan through the Ministry of Education.

Grants

The Artists in Schools grant program is delivered by SK Arts over three streams: Development, Projects and Residencies.

Artists in Schools: Development offers small-scale funding to schools, school divisions, and/or professional artists to support the early stages of a project or residency. Activities include exploring school needs and interests, assessing classrooms for project potential, testing ideas through small-scale activities, building relationships with potential partners and collaborative planning.

Artists in Schools: Projects supports partnerships between Saskatchewan Schools and professional artists to collaboratively design and deliver inquiry-based arts and learning projects. Tailored to the unique needs and interests of each school community, projects connect artistic experiences with cross-curricular and cross-cultural learning outcomes while actively engaging students in the creative process. Eligible applicants include Saskatchewan K–12 schools and Saskatchewan-based professional artists working together to create meaningful, arts-integrated educational opportunities.

Artists in Schools: Residencies program supports Saskatchewan K–12 schools in hosting professional artists for residencies lasting from one to five months. During the residency, artists are fully immersed in the school community, working on-site and engaging regularly with students, staff, and the broader school environment. Schools provide an appropriate workspace that allows the artist to be accessible and actively involved in school life, creating meaningful opportunities for creative learning, artistic exploration, and engagement.

Eligibility requirements vary across the three funding streams. Applicants are encouraged to review the specific program guidelines to ensure they meet all eligibility criteria and understand the requirements for each stream before applying.

LIVE Arts

LIVE Arts is a free, interactive distance education program that brings arts-based learning opportunities to Saskatchewan students in Grades 1–8 through live broadcasts delivered throughout the school year. Presented by professional artists and delivered through the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education’s LIVE Network (CommunityNet), the program connects multiple schools simultaneously for engaging lessons in disciplines such as dance, theatre, music, writing and visual arts. Aligned with Saskatchewan Arts Education curriculum outcomes, LIVE Arts provides teachers with grade-specific programming, educational resources, and access to diverse artistic experiences, including Indigenous and French-language content, helping make high-quality arts education accessible to students across the province.

Details about upcoming LIVE Arts programs, including broadcast schedules, guest artists, curriculum connections and registration information, are released at the beginning of each school year and are available on the LIVE Arts website. Teachers can visit the site to explore grade-specific programming, access supporting educational resources and register their classes for free interactive broadcasts throughout the year.

Ask Artists

Ask Artists is a series of video interviews with artists available to teachers on demand from the LIVE Arts website to support arts education through ROVER (Recommended Online Video Education Resources), a video streaming service for Saskatchewan teachers and students in the Pre K-12 education system.

Eligible Applicants

Provincial schools, school divisions, band schools, private schools using the Saskatchewan arts education curriculum, in partnership with community groups or organizations, and professional artists.

Maximum Funding

  • Development: $2,000
  • Projects: $10,000 (one artist); $20,000 (two artists)
  • Residencies: $8,000 per residency term
