Creative City Centre is pleased to announce the support of the G. Murray and Edna Forbes Foundation Fund at the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation for the establishment of our first Artist-in-Residence position in our new facility.
We are now accepting applications for this exciting opportunity that will run from April 1, 2026 to September 30, 2026.
Application Deadline: January 30, 2026.
Context
Our new facility will (hopefully) be opening to the public in April 2026. We will have a beautiful, dedicated space as an artist-in-residence studio, with lots of daylight and a private washroom. It’s located beside our new lobby art gallery on the main floor of our wheelchair accessible building at 1819 Cornwall Street. The studio comes complete with shelving, a drafting table, worktables, and access to our staff lounge for coffee, tea, water, microwave, fridge, etc.
Our plan is to give you the month of April to move in, get settled, and start developing your schedule of programming and activities. Once we open, we would like to see you offer two public workshops each month in May, June and September. In the summer months of July and August, we’d love to see you deliver a monthly art activity in Victoria Park, as part of Regina Downtown’s summer programming schedule, and contribute to the planning and delivery of our first annual mural festival.
And finally, in September 2026, we would love to feature your artwork in an exhibition in our gallery, as a final wrap-up to your residency. We will host a reception and invite you to give an artist talk about your work and your experience in our residency. You would also have the month of September in which to clear out the studio space of your personal belongings.
Time Commitment
As with most artist residencies, we hope to see you splitting your time between your own artistic and creative pursuits (60%) and delivering programming to our community (40%). We are a non-profit charitable organization operating with a very lean budget, but we believe in providing opportunities for artists to pursue and perfect their craft, as well as paying artists for their work. Each workshop would be approximately 3 hours in duration. The summer art activities would be either during the week at noon hour, or on the weekend during Farmers Market hours. The mural festival is still in the preliminary planning stage, so that’s a bit of an unknown element, to be determined. We will revise our AiR budget as soon as the mural details are more concrete.
Note: Our timeline may change because of construction delays that are out of our control. We’ve been dealing with this for two years now, so please be kind!
The Budget
We will pay you CARFAC rates for preparing and delivering your workshops (8 workshops @ $540 per workshop = $4320). We will also provide a materials budget of a maximum of $250 per workshop (total $2000), as well as a general materials budget of $500 (which can be used to purchase materials for your own art). We will also pay the CARFAC exhibition fee of $2574 for the September solo exhibition of your works. In addition, you will also be paid a monthly honorarium of $750 (x 6 months = $4500) toward your time posting on social media channels or engaging with CCC staff and programs in other ways. The budget for your contributions to our mural festival are to be determined…this is new ground for us and we’re making everything up as we go along so we need you to be understanding as we figure things out! Any time/efforts you contribute during the mural festival will be above and beyond the amounts listed above.
The Benefits
You’ll have seven “rent-paid” months in our beautiful new space to make your art, to engage with community, and to contribute to what this program might look like as we move forward. You’ll have financial support for materials for your own art practice. You’ll have access to our team of mentors, as well as the opportunity to connect with Elders or Cultural Advisors. You’ll be a vital part of the exciting first year in our new facility, with opportunities to develop new programming beyond the scope of this short-term project.
How To Apply
Complete this application form. Attach samples of your work. Give us an idea of what you want to bring to the table, the types of workshops you might offer, and a general idea of the artwork you want to create and/or exhibit in our gallery in the fall. We don’t need details, just a general overview of what you would do if you were selected. We will respond to every application by mid-February 2026.
