Who can be nominated?

General eligibility criteria and specific criteria that apply to each award are listed in the Nomination Package here. Please note that no individual, group, collective or organization can be selected for more than one award within any given year and nominees may receive each award once only. A list of previous award recipients is available here.

Eligibility criteria are listed in the Nomination Package here. Please note that self-nominations and posthumous nominations are not accepted for any award. Nominations for an individual, group or collective from their family members or representatives (i.e. agents, managers, etc.), and nominations for an organization from its principals, board members or employees are not eligible.

How do I nominate an artist or organization?

Nomination is simple. Please see the Nomination Package here for a complete description of the items that are required for the submission and complete the Nomination Form. Your submission must be e-mailed to SK Arts no later than 4:30 p.m. on January 15, 2021.

How do you define a professional artist?

How do you define a professional artist?

Professional artists have completed basic training in their discipline (through formal training or mentorships, as appropriate), have a body of work that has received critical recognition and are recognized as professionals by their peers.

Do I need to tell the nominee I am nominating him/her?

Do I need to tell the nominee I am nominating him/her?

As long as you have all of the information required to complete the Nomination Form, you don't need to inform the nominee of the nomination.

How are the awards adjudicated?

How are the awards adjudicated?

Before nominations are assessed, SK Arts staff review them to confirm that eligibility and technical requirements have been satisfied. An independent panel of jurors with appropriate knowledge and experience assess the eligible nomination submissions for each award through a competitive process based on the adjudication criteria specific to each award category. The panel establishes a short-list of nominees for each award and selects the recipient. The adjudication criteria for each award are available in the Nomination Package here.

No. Only complete nomination packages submitted in the proper format and received by the deadline are eligible for consideration.

No. Submissions must be received by SK Arts by 4:30 p.m. on January 15, 2021.

What if my nomination arrives after the deadline?

Nominations received after 4:30 p.m. on January 15, 2021 are ineligible.

How is the personal information of the nominator and nominee handled?

How is the personal information of the nominator and nominee handled?

The personal and confidential information that is provided in the submission is collected, used and disclosed in accordance with the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. This information is required to process the nomination. Personal and confidential information will only be disclosed as necessary to employees of SK Arts and the peer assessors. If shortlisted for an award, the name of the nominee and their community of residence will be made known publicly. If selected for an award, the name of the recipient, their community of residence and the award prize will be made known publicly. SK Arts will respond appropriately to any inquiries regarding the privacy policies and procedures, including requests to access personal information.

Do nominees receive complimentary tickets to the gala event?

The recipient of the Lieutenant Governor's Lifetime Achievement  Award and nominees short-listed in other categories will each receive two complimentary tickets for the awards event, which will be held on Monday, November 10, 2021.

When will we know if our nominee is a recipient of an award?

When will we know if our nominee is a recipient of an award?

A short-list of nominees will be announced prior to the awards event, along with the recipient of the Lieutenant Governor's Lifetime Achievement Award, at a news conference in April 2021. Recipients of all other awards will be announced at the evening event on Monday, May 10, 2021.
